Yet again a true Slow Food affair, this year’s Terra Madre Day Lunch on December 10, 2014 did not disappoint.
Though the original intent of Terra Madre Day is to celebrate local food traditions and products, this year Slow Food Hong Kong recognized the birth place of the Slow Food Movement as well as the diversity of our global city with a lunch at Giando Italian Restaurant & Bar.
Chef Gianni Caprioli and his team cooked up savory, traditional foods from his native Italy, full of authentic gusto Italiano. Members and friends of Slow Food Hong Kong were seated around a large table to enjoy Chef Gianni’s classic Italian dishes family-style. Dishes like mozzarella di bufala, pollo alla boscaiola, tagliata di manzo, and fettuccine al ragù were perfectly complemented by an excellent selection of mainly Italian wines.
During lunch, much in the way of our events, an animated discussion of food ensued — the ingredients, Italy’s passion for food, produce — the Chef himself even joined in.
After lunch, many of us retired to the terrace for drinks and more engaging conversation. Under the majestic banyan tree, the passing time was forgotten. For an afternoon, we experienced a slower pace of life, savoring the meal, the wine, and one another’s company before returning to the hectic, busy Hong Kong lives.
This December 10th on Terra Madre Day, we look forward to celebrating another year of Slow Food in Hong Kong, our movement, our values, and our community.
