Join us at Slow Food Hong Kong’s Taste Workshop — where every bite tells a story!
Let us guide you through a delicious journey into the sweet and savory world of umami. Our second workshop features exclusive insight with food professionals and like-minded gourmands. This tasting tour promises to deepen your understanding of the complex and delicious fifth taste, the foundation in both Asian and Western cuisines.
Itinerary:
- Asian Specialty Dried Food Store
Gain a deeper understanding of umami of the world and venture into the core of Asian culinary taste with a visit to Goodies Food store (貨品目錄 131A Queens Road East, Wan Chai). Discover a variety of specialty ingredients known for their umami properties. We will taste how they can be incorporated into daily cooking to elevate the flavor profile. - Italian Gourmet Market Place
Continue the culinary adventure at Mercato Gourmet (3-11 Wing Fung St, Wan Chai), where “origin matters”. Owner/Chef Gianni Caprioli is known for personally sourcing many Slow Food Presidia products and ingredients directly from Italy. Tastings of these high-quality, ethically sourced ingredients will help you to understand the complex flavours that will help you transform simple dishes into extraordinary culinary creations. - Local Hong Kong Cafe/Tea Room
We conclude the journey at Kee Wah Tea Room (1/F 188 Queens Road East), a cornerstone of traditional Hong Kong gastronomy, with their lead food developer Mr. Ringo Tsao, who will share his insights into the use of umami in their much loved popular specialties.
We will taste a variety of Asian and Western umami products with a complementary drink of tea, coffee or wine.

- HKD 300 per person for non-members, includes 1 year membership to Slow Food
