What a lovely evening with fellow foodies aboard two sampans at the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter! Organized by A Spark of Madness founder and Cooks’ Alliance member Simran Savlani, the heritage-style meal was delicious, the sauces (by Spark) irresistible, the wine and conversations free-flowing.
Typhoon Shelters were built to protect the Tonka boat-dwelling community in Hong Kong who opened their ‘boat’ homes for several guests, operating floating restaurants and entertainment hubs during the 60s and 70s. But soon the villagers started moving inland for better living conditions, and this is the last remaining floating restaurant in Hong Kong.
