The Art of White Tea Workshop

In the last weekend of September, Slow Food Hong Kong, together with Cathy from At Ease Art Centre brought together tea lovers and creative souls for a fun-filled workshop called “The Art of White Tea.” It was a serene Saturday afternoon packed with delicate fragrances and creative expression, where our participants immersed in the beauty of tea and experienced slow living amidst the hustle-bustle of Wan Chai.

Led by Cathy, our artist and knowledgeable tea master, we learned about the evolution of an ancient Chinese ceramic decorative pattern, swan goose. Participants then grabbed blank teacups and got creative, decorating them with beautiful swan goose patterns as well as their own unique patterns.
While our tea cups are being baked, everyone tasted a number of different teas from China, including white tea, liu’an tea (a black tea), and pu’er tea. First up was the 2019 Loose White Tea Leaves, showcasing fresh, floral notes that danced on the palate. Then came the 2013 Aged White Tea Cake, which revealed deeper, honeyed flavors that only time can bring. It was a delightful journey through the evolution of white tea!

Cathy, our fantastic instructor and certified Chinese national tea taster, guided the workshop. With over 30 years of painting experience and a passion for tea culture, she made the experience even more special. We were thrilled to learn from someone who truly bridges the worlds of tea and art. By the end, feeling nurtured and energized from the tea and experience, everyone also left with a personalized teacup, perfect for their next tea moment.
